In this 13-CD box set, Karajan conducts the Philharmonia and the Berliner Philharmoniker in orchestral spectaculars that demonstrate not only the symphonically conceived grandeur and power for which he was renowened but also great wit and charm in popular classics. For many, Herbert von Karajan (1908-1989): hailed early in his career as 'Das Wunder Karajan' (The Karajan Miracle) and known in the early 1960s as 'the music director of Europe': remains the ultimate embodiment of the maestro. Despite his prolonged absence from Berlin, Herbert von Karajan was elected Music Director of the Berlin Philharmonic in 1955, a tribute to the critical (and financial) success of his Philharmonia Orchestra recordings, many of which are in this box.
Claude Debussy, Prélude à l'après-midi d'un faune. Thank you for your understanding. Celelbrated for his intimate knowledge of the symphonic contributions of German Romanticism's great masters, Herbert von Karajan also explored the masterpieces of French composers with the Berliner Philharmoniker in great detail. Herbert von Karajan (German pronunciation: ; born Heribert, Ritter von Karajan; 5 April 1908 – 16 July 1989) was an Austrian conductor. He was principal conductor of the Berlin Philharmonic for 35 years. He is generally regarded as one of the greatest conductors of the 20th century, and he was a dominant figure in European classical music from the mid-1950s until his death. Part of the reason for this was the large number of recordings he made and their prominence during his lifetime
You could argue that Herbert von Karajan got the colors wrong, the rhythms wrong, the balances wrong, and even sometimes the melodies wrong when he was conducting French music. But you could argue until you're blue in the face and you still wouldn't convince anyone Karajan's Aryan French music is anything less than spectacular.
