Morrison Hotel is the fifth studio album by American rock band the Doors, released February 9, 1970 by Elektra Records. Following the use of brass and string arrangements recommended by producer Paul A. Rothchild on their previous album, The Soft Parade, the band returned to their original blues-rock style and was largely seen as a return to form for the band.

Woman was still high on the charts when, like the "actor out on loan" of its closing track, "Riders on the Storm," Jim Morrison died in a Paris bathtub in the summer of 1971. I had also found an original vinyl copy of Morrison Hotel in Galesburg and bought that. I decided to go for . Woman, this being the last record cut by the group before Morrison turned up dead in a bathtub in Paris. On it, he is by now a full-out madman, probably completely baked and strung out at all the recording sessions, and in full possession of his gifts and his voice.
Woman took shape in the Doors' rehearsal room, which they'd converted into a makeshift studio for the album, the band brought in bassist Jerry Scheff and guitarist Marc Benno to round out their sound, and the augmented lineup started cutting tracks live - a process Manzarek looked back on fondly.
