Ernest MacMillan: Canadian orchestral conductor, composer, organist, and Canada's only "Musical Knight". He is widely regarded as being Canada's pre-eminent musician, from the 1920s through the 1950s. His contributions to the development of music in Canada were sustained and varied, as conductor, performer, composer, administrator, lecturer, adjudicator, writer, humourist, and statesman. Goldberg Variations BWV 988: Variation XV - Canone alla Quinta (Andante) a 1 Clavier, Goldberg Variations BWV 988: Variation XII - Canone alla quarta a 1 Clavier, Piano Concerto In D Minor.
Bach: Matthäus-Passion St. Matthew's Passion Sir Georg Solti. Margaret Hillis's superb Chicago Symphony Chorus sings with appropriate fervor; but the tone is always transparent and nicely focused, and vibrato, while evident, is not overbearing. As for the soloists, Solti has lined up a stellar cast indeed: Blochwitz and Bär are among the most convincing exponents of their respective roles (Evangelist and Christus) since Pears and Fischer-Dieskau for Klemperer or Pears and Prey for Münchinger.
