Following his visit to Bayreuth in the summer of 1876, he composed it in Moscow in fewer than three weeks. It is dedicated to his friend and former pupil Sergei Taneyev. The Israel Philharmonic Orchestra brings to life Bernstein’s vastly contrasting interpretations that tease out the maximum drama in even the most minute details of Tchaikovsky’s writing. The Capriccio Italien and 1812 are delivered with swaggering virtuosity.
