Black Sabbath is the debut studio album by the English rock band Black Sabbath. Released on 13 February 1970 in the United Kingdom and on 1 June 1970 in the United States, the album reached number eight on the UK Albums Charts and number 23 on the Billboard charts. Black Sabbath is the debut studio album by Black Sabbath  . According to Black Sabbath guitarist and founding member Tony Iommi, the group's debut album was recorded in a single day on 16 October 1969. The session lasted twelve hours. Iommi said: "We just went in the studio and did it in a day, we played our live set and that was it. We actually thought a whole day was quite a long time, then off we went the next day to play for £20 in Switzerland.

Before Black Sabbath, there were plenty of rock groups that played heavy: The Jimi Hendrix Experience, Cream, Blue Cheer, Iron Butterfly, Led Zeppelin. But the music that Sabbath created in the early 70s was heavier and darker than anything that had come before, and it would prove seminal. Black Sabbath are the forefathers of heavy metal, says Rick Rubin, the producer of the band’s most recent album 13. They may well be the heaviest band of all time. And I don’t know of a more influential band other than The Beatles.

Heavy Metal Black Sabbath. This album reached the spot on the Billboard 200 chart, in 1970. It stayed there for over a year. It's been certified platinum in both the USA and the UK. Bassist Geezer Butler came up with the idea for the band's name from an old Boris Karloff horror flick called Black Sabbath. He saw how popular those movies were and proposed the idea of using musical themes about horror and the occult. Evil Woman is a very heavy song that rocks at less than medium tempo. The lyrics are about the mistrust of a woman. This is the song that us Americans wished that was included on our albums.

Black Sabbath's debut album is the birth of heavy metal as we now know it. Compatriots like Blue Cheer, Led Zeppelin, and Deep Purple were already setting new standards for volume and heaviness in the realms of psychedelia, blues-rock, and prog rock. Yet of these metal pioneers, Sabbath are the only one whose sound today remains instantly recognizable as heavy metal, even after decades of evolution in the genre. The British release included another cover, a version of Crow's "Evil Woman" that doesn't quite pack the muscle of the band's originals; the American version substituted "Wicked World," which is much preferred by fans.

Band name: Black Sabbath Album title: Black Sabbath Song title: Black Sabbath The first heavy, dark and doomy heavy riff song. Released on Friday the 13th, February, 1970. Sure, there are many heavy rocking bands, albums and songs pre-dating this, but they’re not even close to this kind of heavyness and darkness with a name like this. June 18, 2012 at 11:56 pm. this album has a special meaning to me along with paranoid. raw sound, bells, rain and the dark riffs slow tempo of the title song at the beginning that would be the trade mark. wonderful or as we brasilians say maravilhoso! the beginniing of metal.
