The Kiss Of Morning - Blur man Graham Coxon's third solo effort is raw, tender and acutely personal. The theme, a man battling alcoholism inevitably smacks a bitter, remorseful taste, and there is little soft and sweet here you'll end up dead. brain cells diminished and underfed' . It stands up to scrutiny on its own merits and is best listened to divorced from the distraction of the Blur split. A stripped down acoustic guitar sound pervades, yet Graham draws widely on a host of musical traditions.

Certainly the Kiss of Morning is one of the most cerebral albums of this young decade, and goes a long way in proving that quality rock and roll is far from passe. Time will prove that Coxon is one of the most sonically agressive instrumentalists of his generation. This album has truly captured my imagination, I recommend it to any fan of Blur's 13 or self-titled albums, as well as anyone looking for a fresh listen.
