Michna ‎– Magic Monday. Label: Ghostly International ‎– GI-73, Ghostly International ‎– gi-73. Bright modern electro, courtesy of Michna's debut MAGIC MONDAY. Even the horn intro to "Triple Chrome Dipped" seems a part of this shiny surface, replete with synth-altered humming. The horns return to fuller effect on "Swiss Glide. But for the unmistakable herald of talent, it's the melodic "Believe In It" or the sleazy digital jazz of "Skunk Walk" that really announce themselves. When he slows it down for the end of "Bumper Car Masters," he shows he's got more than just skittery IDM beats up his sleeves

Perhaps the most exciting aspect of the album is its rich element of musicality; in an era when hip-hop tracks have devolved into two-note keyboard loops, songs like Skunk Walk live up to their name with full-bodied funk and live horns. When Ghostly owner, Sam Valenti IV, asked Adrian which samples to clear, Adrian replied, What samples? " "With its solid backbone of sound collage, Magic Monday pulls together Michna’s variety of influences to reveal the sound of New York City in transition. At a time when so many New Yorkers complain that their fair city has been sanitized beyond.

A laid-back groove is constant for the full duration, but subtle stylistic changes from song to song keep things interesting.

When he slows it down for the end of "Bumper Car Masters," he shows he's got more than just skittery IDM beats up his sleeves. Michna tosses into a smorgasborg of samples into his tracks, never letting them sit still for a moment. The electro comes back with some Detroitian synths for "Redline Flights," but the gentle "Do What You Want To Do" eases us back into calm. "Avante" thrums like a electronic dolphin gamboling above the water, even as its acoustic interlude takes us onto a Brazilian boat. The final track, "Third Orbit," sounds as if it's a countdown to Tuesday. Oh, if only the whole week could be as magical.
