Kim Carnes is the second studio album by Kim Carnes, released in 1975 (see 1975 in music). You're a Part of Me" (solo version) peaked Adult Contemporary (1976) on Billboard charts. It was the very first Kim Carnes hit. Although this album hasn't been released on CD, eight of the album's eleven songs can be found on the European CD "Master Series". You're a Part of Me" (Kim Carnes) – 3:32. Bad Seed" (Carnes, Dave Ellingson, Mentor Williams, Eddie Reeves) – 4:30.

Kim Carnes /kɑːrnz/ (born July 20, 1945) is an American singer-songwriter. Born and raised in Los Angeles, California, she began her career as a songwriter in the 1960s, writing for other artists while performing in local clubs and working as a session background singer with the famed Waters sisters (featured in the documentary, 20 Feet from Stardom). After she signed her first publishing deal with Jimmy Bowen, she released her debut album Rest on Me in 1972.

Album: Café Racers (1983). This song is a heartbreaker, with Carnes singing about how she lost her man, and now all she can do to comfort herself is to pretend they are still together. The song was written by Brian Fairweather and Martin Page, who had a group called Q-Feel. In our interview with Page, he explained that the song did not come from personal experience, since at the time he didn't put himself in his lyrics (this changed with his first solo single "In the House of Stone and Light"). 'I Pretend' was a ripoff of me listening to the Pointer Sisters," he explained

Kim Carnes' 1975 self-titled A&M album resulted in her first hit, "You're a Part of Me," which went Top 40 in 1976 on the adult contemporary charts (a different version of her original tune, a duet with Gene Cotton on Ariola Records, went Top 40 two years later). The strongest track, though, is her raspy reading of "Somewhere in the Night," an eventual hit for both Barry Manilow and Helen Reddy. She had competition in this race, however, as Steve Cropper's 1975 production of Yvonne Elliman, the Rising Sun album, contained.
