The band's third album, Jesus Hits Like the Atom Bomb, was a mix of both creativity and experimentalism. DeLaughter has been quoted as saying that the album "is the band at their best". The album has a fragmented style: from one vignette to another. Marine toured with the band until he was replaced by Ben Curtis, who drummed on Jesus Hit Like the Atom Bomb and their fourth album, the self-titled Tripping Daisy . This is the first of two albums (the second being the band's swan-song, Tripping Daisy (2000) to feature Ben Curtis on drums; he would later go on to form The Secret Machines and School of Seven Bells. The album expanded the band's sound, ditching most of their "90's Grunge sound" for a more layered "Neo-Psychedelic" sound similar to Clouds Taste Metallic Era Flaming Lips.

Tripping Daisy was an alternative rock band which formed in Dallas, Texas, United States in 1990 and are best known for their 1995 single "I Got A Girl". The band formed as Tim DeLaughter (vocals, guitar), Wes Berggren (guitar), Mark Pirro (bass) and Jeff Bouck (drums), although Bouck was replaced with Bryan Wakeland a few months afterwards. Guitarist Philip Karnats joined the band in 1997.
