Electric Universe is the thirteenth studio album by Earth, Wind & Fire, released in November 1983 on Columbia Records. The album rose to Nos. 8 & 40 on the Billboard Top Soul Albums and Billboard 200 charts respectively. Electric Universe was produced by Maurice White for Kalimba Productions. With Electric Universe came a unique new wave & synth pop sound for EWF. As well Electric Universe was featured in an episode of Mass Appeal's YouTube series Rhythm Roulette.

Commercially, Earth, Wind & Fire were slipping in 1983. Though a decent album, Powerlight wasn't the type of big seller EWF was used to. Maurice White responded with a change of direction that proved to be both a commercial and artistic fiasco. Working with very in-demand (and very formula-oriented) studio figures like Martin Page and David Foster, EWF went for a much slicker and more high-tech approach on the weak and disappointing Electric Universe

Electric Universe" was Earth, Wind & Fire's 14th album. As a concept piece, the album gets high marks. It's set list and video plays out like some futuristic space saga as it describes a mechanized society devoid of human compassion, caring and declining consciousness. No, this doesn't take place a long time ago in a galaxy far, far away. Oh no, it's the mid 1980's period that our spiritual guru and Jedi White is describing here.

Album · 1983 · 9 Songs. Even at a time when many of the leading lights of '70s R&B were falling by the wayside, Earth, Wind & Fire still sound fresh and exciting on 1983's Powerlight. Their timeless blend of horn-driven funk and sweet soul harmonies meets twinkling synths on the swaggering hit "Fall in Love with Me", while the yearning "Straight from the Heart" is one of Philip Bailey's most heart-rending ballads. The dramatic closer, Miracles", moves from a stark piano-driven opening to a glorious, gospel-tinged climax

No one has said anything yet. Contributions By. GammaInk. Working with very in-demand (and very formula-oriented) studio figures like Martin Page and David Foster, EWF went for a much slicker and more high-tech approach on the weak and disappointing Electric Universe. A few of the songs are interesting (including "Electric Kingdom" and the single "Magnetic"), but they don't prevent Electric Universe from being EWF's weakest album ever.
