Ital Tek - Hollowed Forget what you know about Ital Tek-his fifth Planet Mu album is a total reset. There's barely a lick of his beloved footwork on Hollowed. Instead, we get 60 or so minutes of droning guitars, synth and choral lulls, big dramatic peaks and lovely deep troughs, and with just enough bass weight to not quite forget where the Brighton-based producer comes from. It's the record Alan Myson wanted to make as a 14-year-old but had no idea how to, and in that sense, it's a smouldering triumph.
Ital Tek's fifth full-length is on the way. Alan Myson has been a staple of the latter-day Planet Mu roster since debuting on the label back in 2007. With four albums and several more EPs to his name, he's one of the UK imprint's most prolific artists. Hollowed marks his return home after two 12-inches for Civil Music. For this one, Myson went back to the drawing board completely, looking to his earliest methods of making music from when he was a teenager.
Ital Tek has made a nearly perfect album, wherein each note and beat contains an intimate history of Alan Myson's decade-long artistic development. From Hollowed's pensive opening track, "A Delicate Balance", to "Vacuum I's" understated pads and lithe rhythms, the latter the equivalent to a person's heart beating at the pace of a panic attack, Myson's compositions descend into the abyss without fearing the endless fall. Darkened textures and mixed samples of hellish discord tie together the theme of vast emptiness. And how that emptiness translates.
iTAL tEK is Brighton based electronic musician Alan Myson. Past releases 'Blood Line' on Planet Mu and 'Deep Pools' EP on Square Records both in 2007. iTAL tEK's debut album 'Cyclical' was released on Planet Mu records in May 2008, since he has been working on new material and released Massive Error EP in May 2009.
