An excellent album from Chaka Khan, mixing tingling uptempo tunes with her characteristic soaring, glorious vocals. Got to Be There" reached number five on the R&B charts, but it actually wasn't the album's high point. That was the marvelous "Be Bop Medley," which later led hardcore jazz purist Betty Carter to proclaim Khan the one female singer working outside the jazz arena with legitimate improvising credentials.

For years I steered clear from this album because I was led to believe that "I'm Every Woman" was the only song worth listening to on this album. That is A Big Fat Lie! Now, I do admit that I love Chaka with Rufus better, but this album is nothing to sneeze at. Songs like "Sleep On It", "Some Love", and "A Woman In A Man's World"(with it's Rufus flavor), holds very nicely on this album. I Was Made To Love Him" is a little suspect, only because in my mind nobody can re-doe Stevie Wonder. With all that said, this album is so much.

Chaka Khan has confirmed details of her new album Hello Happiness, to be released on 15 February via Diary Records/Island Records. The news follows the recent unveiling of the title track single, on the new label that’s been established by Major Lazer founder and Grammy-nominated producer Switch with the artist and songwriter Sarah Ruba Taylor. Ten-time Grammy winner Khan will now follow all of that acclaim with an album in which her unique vocal technique is set to songs with cutting-edge production. Highlights include ‘Like A Lady,’ which conjures the mood of the New York disco scene of the 1970s, and the R&B anthem ‘Too Hot’. Further,‘Isn’t That Enough’ and ‘Don’t Cha Know’ introduce bold new elements to her sound and ‘Ladylike’ offers a laid back, minimalist groove.

Chaka Khan added a new photo to the album: Chaka Khan Gallery of Photos. Chaka Khan is with Vee Adams.
