The Lashes Get It. Is it possible for a band to have schizophrenia" It seems as if The Lashes have copied almost every indie-pop band that hit it big in 2005. Their music is so un-original and sappy that it seems the band has no personality of its own. The most entertaining part about the whole band is listening to the vocalist put on a faux European accent and attempt to sing about heartbreak. The Lashes are disposable and terminally boring. Some call them catchy, and that’s easy when one line is repeated about 20 times per song. It frightens me that this album is actually their major.

Young guns the Lashes fall somewhere between these two latter musical threads, "stroppy pop for now people. They certainly attack their songs with all the fervor of any self-respecting punk band, but their arrangements are much denser and rock-flecked, hailing back to the halcyon days of the late '70s, when surly pop-rockers like the young Tom Petty and even wacky Cheap Trick could lay claim to punkdom or at least to riding the new wave

Get It is the first full-length album and major-label release from Seattle band the Lashes. Okay, the fact that the band members all sometimes substitute "Lashes" as their last names is on the side of roll-your-eyes embarrassing, but as a band that is attached to the label of pop, the Lashes make a strong case for why you should still listen

The Lashes come out swinging with New Best Friend, the irresistible lead track from their major label debut Get It. Hailing from the Pacific Northwest but sounding like a band born out of long rehearsals spent in the Bowery, the Seattle sextet’s freewheeling disc somersaults out of the speakers-a brash, confident collection of power-pop gems sharp enough to cut glass. Channeling The Clash, The Cars, Iggy Pop, and vintage Ramones, The Lashes indulge in rousing odes to spoiled brats ( Daddy’s Little Girl ), downtempo night-driving laments ( Sometimes The Sun ) and sun-kissed anthems ( Please,. Throughout the album, from refusing to compromise her ideals (on EARTHA ) to embracing her peculiarities (on BETTY ), Woods stresses that the first step to healing is a regard for one’s own boundaries, values, and desires-or, to put it more simply, self-respect.

Get It, the Lashes' full-length debut, sounds exactly like the aforementioned bands. Maybe instead of thank-you notes, those bands should be sending cease-and-desist letters. Every track on Get It - with the exception of the mid-tempo, string-section aided "Dear Hollywood" - is upbeat and n-the-disc power pop, from the jangly single "Sometimes the Sun", the New Wavy flourishes of "The World Needs More Love Letters", and the bouncy keyboards of "Nate's Song". Trying to differentiate between these songs is like trying to pinpoint the differences between brands of toothbrushes - they all do about the same thing, with very little variation.
