The Fila's are some sort of a miracle. It's hard to comprehend where those mega-producers get their ideas from - I mean they throw their stuff at the masses as if it's lying in their backyard. Yet every release is full of twists and turns that sound fresh and new and in a way unheard before. although it had to grow on me. At first I expected it to be a bit laid back. This album will have you on your feet flippin' away! Especially the first third of the album is devoted to fat drums and screaming guitars with 'Blowhole' being some sort of a climax. My personal favourites are the pieces with blaring brass (namely 'Thatched Neon' and the ambient smasher 'Uberboff'). Madam Levefre' is one of the funkiest pieces of music I've heard this year. Anyway, a great album.

Dicks is an album by the British electronica group, Fila Brazillia, released on Twentythree Records in 2003. The album title 'Dicks' refers to the French word for '10': Dix. This is Fila's Brazillia's 10th album in as many years. Dicks is filled with 23 b-sides from the Phoebus Brumal sessions. An Impossible Place" – 0:38. Sidearms and Parsnips" – 3:23. The Great Attractor" – 2:39. Kiss My Whippet" – 1:57.

After the imaginative but often leaden-sounding Jump Leads LP in 2001, Messrs. Cobby and McSherry applied their usual mastery of sound science to The Life and Times of Phoebus Brumal, an extraordinary set of music that starts out bouncing like Basement Jaxx but ends up revealing more stylistic and musical innovation than anyone else in the field of organic electronica. That these productions appear on what is apparently a concept album centering on the daftly named figure in the title shouldn't scare away any listeners (although fleeing would indeed be understood)

Andrew Jervis – Previously unreleased Fila Brazillia!? Amazing, of course. It just grooves like nothing else. With Dicks being a less dance floor orientated as previous album Life and Times of Phoebus Brumal or Stylewise, this album sums up the word eclectic, taking tunes all over the place. Life looks very different with a Fila Brazillia soundtrack. Why, even the dreary streets of their Hull hometown have been brightened by the Balearic sunshine Steve Cobby and Dave McSherry have been brewing, amidst the alchemical hubble-bubble of their studio, for over a decade. Fila Brazillia, the downtempo machine that never stop churning, presents their 9th studio album, THE LIFE AND TIMES OF PHOEBUS BRUMAL. I don’t know how they manage such tight quality control after so long, but they do it. The melodies are kept tight, and the beats are solid. The strict house beat “Platinum Spider” gives way to the loose and funky breaks of “Underpuppy.” These tracks have much shorter track times, which makes them seem both to move faster and to be underdeveloped. Certainly, after the magnificence of JUMP LEADS, there’s some edge taken off, but the deep throbs and harpsichord of “Thatched Neon” that lead into some horny jazz or the country-western soul thump of “You Won’t Let Me Rock” help recapture the strength. “La Boulangerie Digitale” is as close to pure techno as they’ve ever come; “Boca Raton” keeps the tech feel, but lightens it some. Though Djinji Brown makes an appearance, his involvement is thankfully kept to a minimum. The final track, “Kingdom of Sound,” suffers from his lackluster skills. A mar in an otherwise wonderful album and another change of direction from the Fila boys.

Fila's back and it rocks! And regarding to their previous release "Jump Leads", they threw out their folk-singers inspirations, giving birth to an uptempo weird mutant wich really stand in a futuristic groovy place(ruled by republic designer...). By the way, all the usuals fila's cooking precepts are still present: melodical pearls, organics elements, and totaly weird pieces of dialogue achieve to trap you inside. As listening to this one, you understand the importance of "Jump Leads" in Fila's discographia: the transition from the status of "electronic producers" to "real-accomplished musicians". This fact now etablished, and with this new album, they prove that they would finally never grow up...
