Vitouš was replaced by Alphonso Johnson. Another addition to the line-up is drummer Ishmael Wilburn. Mysterious Traveller also appears on the Weather Report compilation album This Is Jazz, Vol. 10 and various artists compilation Meltdown: The Birth of Fusion. 5. Blackthorn Rose (Shorter) 5:00. As part of Weather Report, his playing has often been overshadowed by the formidable keyboard presence of Zawinul, yet he, more than anyone else in the unit, is responsible for the band’s individual personalit. awinul seems to be steering Report into a landscape of his own imagination, something that may not ultimately be compatible with Shorter’s lyrical abilities. One thing is indisputable: both men show no sign of creative stagnation and, because of this, Weather Report remains one of the most seminal small ensembles of the day. ★★★★. Marv Hohman, Down Beat, November 7, 1974.

Mysterious Traveller was Weather Report's fourth studio album and the successor to Sweetnighter, I Sing The Body Electric and the eponymous first album (Live In Tokyo was only recently released in full outside Japan). Nubian Sundance" kicks in hard with two drummers and a percussionist, but there's a curious feeling of suspension, akin to watching Muybridge's horse forever galloping but never moving forward. Mysterious Traveller" slips in spookily then revs up to a rhythmic workout that recalls Sweetnighter.

Notes

Original first European release.

Inner sleeve with credits.
Most of the releases of this album have a difference of tracklist between back cover and inner sleeve :
- on back cover 7 tracks (Cucumber Slumber on A3 & Jungle Book on B4). This order match with labels & pressing
- on inner sleeve 6 tracks (Cucumber Slumber is not listed & Jungle Book in A3)

ALL inner sleeves seem to have that wrong tracklist.

NOTE there do even exist copies with a misprinted tracklist on back cover with only 6 tracks.
The back cover lists mistakenly 'Jungle Book' as third track for the A side, while it is in fact the last track on the B side.
'Cucumber Slumber' isn't listed at all.

These seem to be from the first run of US copies > Weather Report - Mysterious Traveller where this mistake was present as well.
That was corrected on subsequent copies. But it never happened for the inner sleeve.
