The Best Years of Our Lives is the third studio album by Steve Harley & Cockney Rebel, released in 1975. It was the first album that featured Harley's name ahead of the band's (the band was previously known simply as Cockney Rebel). The album contains the band's only UK number one, the million-selling "Make Me Smile (Come Up and See Me)". The album was produced by Harley and Alan Parsons.
Their previous album, V. made Pearl Jam the most successful band in the world. They celebrated by suing Ticketmaster and making Vitalogy, where their mastery of rock’s past and future became complete. Soulful ballads like Nothingman are matched by hardcore-influenced rockers such as Spin the Black Circle. Coldplay churn out bighearted British guitar rock on their second album – what Chris Martin aptly called "emotion that can make you feel sad while you're moving your legs.
Steve Miller's guitar playing is the star of this album, blazing across the whole affair more prominently than on any other release in his lengthy career; many of the songs have a power trio feel. In addition to the fine guitar work, Miller's vocals are stronger here, and during this era in general, than they would be in his hitmaking days in the mid-'70s, when he was much more laid-back and overdubbed
Also check out the Steve Morse Fan Page group a. .there’s more good news: our fearless guitarist has offered himself on DP’s days off to be able to swing some FC shows in select cities throughout their US Tour!!! (Hurray Steve!!
Steve, in particular, was very hesitant about it. He said he didn’t think it was gonna work, so I said, ‘If it doesn’t work then we’ll go back and do it as you’ve done previously, but let’s give it a try!’ Pretty much, as soon as they’d done one or two run-throughs, he said, ‘I never want to work another way again!’ There was always gonna be a different edge to a certain degree anyway, with the fact we have three lead guitarists, Steve Harris noted in 2000. That in itself, I would’ve thought wasn’t going to be an easy thing to handle, but Kevin handled it brilliantly. As comebacks go, Brave New World was an absolute monster. And they’ve barely paused for breath since. As Bruce has pointed out on more than one occasion, those guys pay me a lot of money, so I always want them to be as successful as they can be, states Kevin.
Infamously cantankerous studio rat/national treasure Steve Albini doesn’t like to be called a record producer. He prefers the term recording engineer. That’s a dry, clinical term for what Albini actually does, but it makes sense that he’d prefer to be seen that way. Over the past few decades, Albini has overseen the creation of countless numbers of recorded artifacts. That album recalled any number of past Albini-recorded efforts. And so does Ugly, the forthcoming Screaming Females album, which Albini also recorded and which also kicks all kinds of ass. Given that Albini is having a banner year so far, we thought it’d be fun to honor some of the other records that Albini recorded.
