Blues & Roots is an album by Charles Mingus, recorded in 1959 and released in 1960. It has been reissued on CD, by Atlantic Records and Rhino. Mingus explained the birth of this record in the album's liner notes: This record is unusual-it presents only one part of my musical world, the blues.

The East Coast Blues and Roots Festival in Byron Bay is one of the largest music festivals in the country. It's held each year over the Easter weekend and this year it ran from Thursday April 8 to Monday April 12 - a whole 5 days and nights of fantastic live music by some of the world's best and most popular blues and roots musicians. The challenge for ABC Radio National's Live On Stage crew was to record on two stages simultaneously without the use of the radio OB Van (which was out of service)
