Varg & Björn by Murg, released 30 March 2015 1. Vindarna luktar rök 2. Nejderna brinner 3. Grannen är din fiende 4. Massvandring & blodbad 5. Den starkes rätt 6. Farsoternas afton 7. Varg & Björn 8. Ett slut, ingen början Do you remember the days of old? If not, then MURG will definitely MAKE you remember. One positive effect of my recent Nordvis subscription is that I also got some really good "old" stuff into my collection. MURG is such a band which I had missed otherwise. They play grim true nordic black metal with an ice cold, pitch-black atmosphere. Sharp guitars and straight forward songwriting is the base of the grim atmosphere.

The debut album Varg & Björn is a concept album that conveys the notion of human kinds total uselessness and its cyclical attempts – and constant failure – at achieving co-existence with anything on this earth. Civilization is a myth that foreshadows the one and true god; Nature, and the parasitical humans has long since used their right to exist. The punishment is death, and Nature will be the executioner. Murg reveal their potential, but they do not do it in a continuous way. This is not a big problem in view of the integrity of the band. It is only a pity that "Varg & Björn" leaves the listener with the feeling that the album could have been a little bit better. I would have preferred an ice-cold storm with only very rare interruptions. Nevertheless, the first 20 seconds of the fourth track deliver are nothing but an inappropriately long break; and I could quote a number of other examples.
