Chant is an album of Gregorian chant, performed by the Benedictine Monks of Santo Domingo de Silos in Spain. The music did not sell significantly until it was re-released by Angel in 1994 when it was strongly marketed as an antidote to the stress of modern life. Chant is the best-selling album of Gregorian chant ever released.

Chant II is a 1995 album of Gregorian chant, performed by the Benedictine Monks of Santo Domingo de Silos in Burgos, Spain. It is a follow-up to the 1994 release Chant, the best-selling album of Gregorian chant. Like the first album, it included material which had been recorded by the monks some years previously. The monks of Santo Domingo de Silos have been singing Gregorian chant since the 11th century (before that, they used Mozarabic chant)

Even though Gregorian chant had been a central part of Roman Catholic liturgy for over a millennium, its rediscovery by a laity largely unfamiliar with historical sacred music seemed a part of a growing religious awareness, which appealed to both Christian traditionalists and followers of new age ideas.

Profile: Gregorian chant choir of the Monastery of Santo Domingo de Silos, which lies in Northern Spain at the end of a small valley in the province of Burgos. The Spanish name is Coro de monjes del Monasterio Benedictino de Santo Domingo de Silos ("Choir of the monks of the Benedictine Monastery of Santo Domingo de Silos") or Coro de la Abadía Benedictina de Santo Domingo de Silos (Choir of the Benedictine Abbey of Santo Domingo de Silos). Benedictine Monks, Benedictine Monks Of Santo Domingo De Silos, Chants Grégoriens A Silos, Choeur Des Moines de L'Abbaye de Santo Domingo de Silos, Choir Of Monks Of The Benedictine Monastery Of Santo Domingo De Silos, Choir Of The Monks Of The Benedictine Monastery Of Santo Domingo De Silos, Choir Of The Monks Of The Benedictine Monastery Of Santo Domingo, Silos, Choirs Of.

If this is your motivation, the Monks of Santo Domingo de Silos will not disappoint. Third, it provides an otherworldly sound world that you want to escape to, hovering in the heavens with floating bricks. Not sure many will be turned on by this sub-genre for its musical merits alone, but there are 9 billion people in this world, and certainly at least some will find their base in the ethereal landscape of the monks. Overall, I think this will appeal to many types. If you are exploring classical music then this is definitely worth having. Honestly though, most won't need more than one album of chant in their library. Two other Chant albums that look intriguing (but I have not listened to them myself) are Chant- Music for the Soul by the Cistercian Monks of Stift Heiligenkreuz and Benedicta: Marian Chant from Norcia. 8 people found this helpful.
