Catharsis will certainly be Machine Head's most polarizing album to date. There's a regular album length's worth of excellent songs, but the quality of Catharsis is diluted by that other 30 minutes or so and hampered by a lack of cohesiveness. Catharsis was the album that would define and shape YOB’s signature style of colossal cosmic monolithic doom. It was the album that became the harbinger of what YOB would deliver with their succeeding full-length albums, and it is even the album in which some of the die-hard, old-school YOB fans would even claim is the doom metal trio’s best release. Lisa Awk this album is just pure bliss. It's taken to a whole 'nother level with this release.
