Billie Holiday is one of the greatest jazz singers of the 20th century (competing at the same level as Frank Sinatra & Ella Fitzgerald). Her friend tenor saxophonist Lester Young gave her the nickname Lady Day and their recordings together are some of her best, possessing a joy and playfulness not found in the emotional intensity of her later recordings

As for comparing it with earlier Teddy Wilson-Billie sessions, what’s the point? Count your blessings in having both. Speaking of time, Billie’s beat and variations thereon never cease to be among the seven wonders of jazz.

Billie Holiday's bio-pic was called Lady Sings the Blues, and she had plenty to feel blue about. Billie fronted many big jazz bands but her voice was pure Blues. She continued to record, and her autobiography ‘Lady Sings the Blues’ led to a hugely successful album. In 1956, a series of concerts at Carnegie Hall were recorded on a great live album, including Billie’s own songs ‘Don’t Explain’, ‘I Love My Man’ and ‘Fine and Mellow’, and she toured Europe again making many concert and TV appearances. Billie died in a New York hospital in July 1959, childless, lonely and broke.

Don't see why the word "unknown" appears incessantly: the web is full of valid databases of labels and their respective system of numbering? As for Jazztone; the "10" Nos J-100 - J-12xx were all pressed in 1955, covers too! It would be more respectful if sellers would do some research before usurping inane words like unknown and generic!
