James Infirmary is a traditional American folk song of uncertain origin. It has been attributed by some as the work of Irving Mills, who used the pseudonym Joe Primrose. It’s similar to an 18th century English folk song called The Unfortunate Rake. There are over 120 versions of the song, from Louis Armstrong to Cab Calloway to Betty Boop to Van Morrison to the White Stripes. There are over 20 versions of the lyrics, so the lyrics that follow in this annotation are an amalgamation of many interpretations of the song.

James Infirmary is a partially live album by American folk and blues singer Dave Van Ronk, released in 1983. It was re-released on CD in 1996 as Statesboro Blues by EPM Musique. The first seven tracks were recorded live. Intro" (Van Ronk) – :30. "Green Green Rocky Road" (Robert Kaufman) – 3:25. Jesus Met the Woman at the Well" (Reverend Gary Davis) – 6:30. Somebody Else But Me" ( Van Ronk) – 3:40. Come Back Baby (Let's Talk It over One More Time)" (Walter Davis) – 3:20.
