Each song on this record transports you to a different world on each different song. Its downtempo meets new age meets electronica meets acid jazz. But more than anything its music that meets the soul and decides to become best friends.

Themagicdragon 97. 11 tracks. Caia (pronounced CHY-ah) is the collaborative effort of music producers Maiku Takahashi and Andy Cato (Groove Armada). The music of Caia can be described as a combination of ambience, downtempo, and lounge music.

The "Magic Dragon" . is the lead single off Andy Cato from Groove Armada's exquisite album of down tempo electronica released under his CAIA moniker. Caia - the magic dragon .

With production by Groove Armada's Andy Cato, the full-length debut by Caia is a warm record of housey keys and dub reggae textures, with a set of beats closer to hip-hop or languid downbeat. In that, it's not far off from the work of Groove Armada, though The Magic Dragon focuses more on tracks (the repetition of a few ideas) than songs, and so fits perfectly on its label of release (the dance-oriented Guidance).

Caia - The Magic Dragon From the land of the Rising Sun comes Caia with an album that is probably best listened to during a rising sun or a setting one - The Magic Dragon. Helped out by none other than Groove Armada's Andy Cato on production, The Magic Dragon is one for those blissful moments, sitting around, lounging about and possibly under the spell of a Magic Dragon. If you can imagine Groove Armada in their more chilled out phases, then Caia is pretty much the same. The Magic Dragon maintains that slow-mo GA feel utilising funky bass, hip hop breaks, and jazzy horns

I have a question about this album, which I just purchased. Every record is recorded at 45 RPM’s, except for side B of the first disc. It’s recorded at 33 RPM’s. Also, the song “Remembrance” on this side is missing the melody organ track at the beginning. I did a Google search and can’t find any answers. It’s almost like side B was recorded at the wrong speed and without the organ track. However, I don’t have a reference because I’ve never heard the actual record, only the digital version as well as the compact disc. Can you help me? Thanks for your time. Cutterback

Un disco unico. posee una variedad de sonidos espectaculares. muy buena musica. Andy Cato exelente creacion !!

This fine Andy Cato disk has many of the best attributes of Groove Armada electronica - nice melodies, intricate rhythms and richly sampled soundstages - but none of the harder-driving songs GA is known for. It is essentially an accessible downtempo album with easy appeal. Favorites include Summer Lightning, Mr. Gone and Whose Blues. Cato fans will recognize in Subway Freedom one of the stronger numbers from Weekend Player's Pursuit of Happiness, his third incarnation - strong pop songs with minimal production values (synthesizer only I think).

Andy Cato, on hiatus from Groove Armada, releases THE MAGIC DRAGON under his alias, Caia, on the respected Guidance label. While the Groove Armada influence is definitely present (the laidback rhythms, easy-breezy melodies), there’s also some more beautiful moments that the Armada abandoned by their fourth album. “Remembrance,” for example, is a gorgeous piece of chill-out with an angelic choral sample. “Summer Lightning” has a light Afro-Caribbean vibe to it, enough to add flavor and not so much to be overwhelming, while “La Telecabine” has some shimmering synth hits that sparkle like broken glass in the street. But fear not, there’s still plenty of funk to go around: “Mr. Gone” and “Heavy Weather” swim in it. “Afterwards @ the Bar” goes for jazzy, with delectable results. Let’s hope that Caia revitalizes the Groove Armada boys, but if not, I suspect Andy will do just as well on his own.
