The 1973 track You Really Hurt Me Girl by The Carstairs was big on the soul scene. Ian Levine found that record - three copies in a batch of 100,000 from a warehouse. In the late 1990s he tracked down the lead singer, Cleveland Horne, and discovered the record was never released because the distributor had gone bust. Twenty five years later we got the group back together," says Levine. They performed it and he cried in front of 800 people. Tears ran down his face when he realised how popular this song had been.

SING
The only official/original format for this super classic. One of the 10 biggest and most important records ever on the Northern Soul scene.

Clever
ALL the pink ones are re-issues. Pressed/released to demand on the NS scene (created by the very few White Promos then in existence). First played at Blackpool Mecca.

This is, according to Tom Moulton himself, the first remix he ever did. It was shelved for years before its release in the UK. This track (in original form) was championed by Ian Levine when he was the DJ at the famed Mecca in Blackpool in the mid-70s. The Mecca was one of the major Northern Soul clubs in the UK during the movements' golden age, and Levine effectively divided the scene overnight with this track. English music fanatics being what they are/were, it caused huge controversy as Levine had expanded a bit beyond the strict 60s Northern soul formula (fast traditional "stompers" for dancing) and allowed some slightly funkier 70s tunes into his mix. The result was the start of what is now known as "modern soul"-- the original version of this track was the catalyst. Transitioning between Northern soul, early disco, and modern soul, "It Really Hurts Me Girl" has enormous historic value spanning several genres/scenes of music. All that said, don't forget that the song itself is, as they'd say in England, a "crackin' tune!"
