The World Is a Ghetto is the fifth album by the band War, released in late 1972 on United Artists Records. The album attained the number one spot on Billboard, and was Billboard magazine's Album of the Year as the best-selling album of 1973. In addition to being Billboard's album of 1973, the album is ranked number 444 on Rolling Stone magazine's list of the 500 greatest albums of all time. The title track became a gold record.

The World Is a Ghetto is a latin rock/soul music album recording by WAR released in 1972 on CD, LP/Vinyl and/or cassette. The World Is A Ghetto Extra tracks Avenue Records 2012. The follow-up, The World Is a Ghetto took War mainstream thanks to the crossover success of the title track, a top 10 pop and R&B smash as 1972 became 1973. Cuts like the 13-minute-plus jazz-flavored adventure known as "City, Country, City" alongside the witty "Where Was You At" and the eerie "Four Cornered Room" were standouts on the six-track album. I have kept the Digital 20 bit Master Series because absolutely nothing came close to the sonic quality on that CD, which is quite good. After I purchased the 40th Anniversary version, I gave the 20 bit version to a friend, because it was definitely a better sounding CD. However, this new, remastered version of this CD, which is less expensive, is just sonically stunning!!

War‘s third album as an act separate from Eric Burdon was also far and away their most popular, the group’s only long-player to top the pop charts. Singles from the album include "The World Is a Ghetto" backed with "Four Cornered Room", and "The Cisco Kid" backed with "Beetles in the Bog". Tracklist: (All tracks composed by War).

Their late ’72 album release The World Is A Ghetto, led by the title track and the smash hit The Cisco Kid, became the best-selling pop album of 1973. To commemorate the album’s place in pop music history, Avenue Records and UMe have remastered the album and included unreleased bonus Ghetto Jams, showcasing more of the band’s versatility. The World Is A Ghetto now includes the chugging Freight Train Jam, 58 Blues and the rock-blues track War Is Coming. A Ghetto – Rehearsal Take 8:06. About the Mastering This project, from the original album to the four newly discovered bonus tracks, was created from the original analog masters provided by the group’s producer, Jerry Goldstein. All materials were sourced and mastered by Pete Doell at Universal Mastering Studios-West at 96kHz/24-bit.
