White Winter Hymnal is the first single from Fleet Foxes’s debut 2008 self-titled album.

Fleet Foxes is the eponymous debut studio album by American rock band Fleet Foxes, released on June 3, 2008 by Bella Union. The album debuted at number eleven on the UK Albums Chart, where it eventually peaked at number three, and garnered wide praise from critics, many of whom named it one of the best albums of 2008. Producer and Pecknold family friend Phil Ek had earlier helped Fleet Foxes record their first demo and used his influence to assist in shopping it to record labels.

The Fleet Foxes album was one of the most critically acclaimed releases of 2008. The artwork that adorns the album cover is a painting by Pieter Bruegel the Elder (1525-1569) called Netherlandish Proverbs. This humorous portrait of peasant life depicts around 100 literal renditions of Flemish proverbs of the day. Frontman Robin Pecknold explained to Mojo magazine August 2009 how the painting ended up on the front of the Fleet Foxes' debut album.
