I never knew this about him until I read his obituary when he passed away in 2007. He typically stuck to classical music but earned the nickname "Mister Funkytown" because of this recording. While not nearly as thorough as 1992's ridiculously complete Funkyworld: The Best of Lipps, In. Funkytown delivers all of the uptempo proto-new wave hits in one convenient package. Of course, the bad and good are present (why on earth anyone would unearth "Jazzy" and "I Need Some Cash" for a revival is beyond a guess), but the positive thing is that the good outweighs the bad with Lipps In. with some high-energy disco stompers and fun new wave numbers that will light up any party.
