Bringing Down the Horse is the second album of The Wallflowers, which was released in 1996. It contains hits such as "One Headlight," "6th Avenue Heartache," "Three Marlenas," and "The Difference. One Headlight" was the band's most popular single, reaching on the Billboard Mainstream Rock, Modern Rock, and Adult top 40 charts. The Wallflowers commenced work on the album in 1994. The writing and recording process spanned two years and five California recording studios.

Although on The Wallflowers self-titled debut album Jakob managed to do everything that would cause comparisons to Bob, he was able to turn it all around with The Wallflowers second album "Bringing Down The Horse. Although Jakobs voice often sounds eerily like Bob and you can often hear Bob's influnce in Jakobs lyrics, the songs themselves recall thoughts of Tom Petty and The Heartbreakers. The Counting Crows who's lead singer Adam Duritz makes an appearance on the track Sixth Avenue Heartache also appear to be an influence on the band. With Bringing Down The Horse Jakob was able to intergrate his fathers influence into his others influences, and then modernize the sound with strong melodies, and catchy hooks. But what really sets this album apart from Jakob's contemparies is that he is able to provide us with some incredible lyrics to go along with the hooks, and melodies.

Bringing Down The Horse was eventually certified quadruple-platinum by the RIAA, meaning it had shifted four million units. While that number is tiny compared to generational totems like Nevermind or Ten, it’s still the mark of a very, very big album. But what most people still remember the album for are the twin hit singles 6th Avenue Heartache and One Headlight, and - perhaps to a lesser extent these days - The Difference and Three Marlenas. But much of the Wallflowers’ work deserves better - especially Bringing Down The Horse. It’s an album of humid summer nights spiraling out in no direction in particular, of listless walks and drives to the somewhere else that yearning rock music always seems to promise.

The Wallflowers struck a fine chord with their second LP, Bringing Down the Horse. The songs on the album were all composed by front man Jakob Dylan and the musical arrangements featured an array of acoustic instrumentation – including 6-string acoustic guitar, banjo, dobro and pedal steel – complementing the core electric rock timbres and rhythms. In all, this roots rock sound led to much critical and commercial success as the album went triple platinum and was nominated for multiple Grammy awards.

Listening to it now..the sound sucks. No punch, horrible mix. For a 2xLP album I'd expect much better quality.
