Eric Clapton is the debut solo studio album by British rock musician Eric Clapton, released in August 1970 under Atco and Polydor Records. After being successful with bands including The Yardbirds, John Mayall & the Bluesbreakers, Cream and Blind Faith, Clapton recorded an album under his own name in late 1969 and early 1970. The album cover shows Clapton sitting in a room which is going to be decorated and in which a ladder, a chair and some carpets are placed.
Eric "Slowhand" Clapton's joined the Yardbirds in 1963, but he quit after 18 months, disappointed by their gradual switch from blues to pop. He joined John Mayall's Bluesbreakers, and his lone album with Mayall, BLUES BREAKERS, remains a classic. He then recorded with the Powerhouse, which also included Steve Winwood, and Jack Bruce. In 1966, with Jack Bruce and Ginger Baker, he created the highly influential Cream. They lasted two years, after which Clapton, Baker and Winwood formed Blind Faith with Rick Grech, which released only one album.

Eric Clapton boasts one of the most storied discographies in rock 'n' roll. He got his start in 1963 with the Yardbirds, playing ramped-up versions of American blues and R&B songs. Within two years, he was gone, gigging with British bluesman John Mayall in his band. It was the start of a lifelong pattern for the guitarist: Before the '60s were over, he had done time in Cream, Blind Faith and Delaney and Bonnie and Friends (as well as played a searing solo on pal George Harrison's "While My Guitar Gently Weeps" from the Beatles' White Album)
Eric Clapton & Friends: . .has been added to your Cart. Over the last few years tributes have become quite common in the Roots music world. Howlin' Wolf, Jimmy Reed, Little Walter and Son House have all been honored recently with a salute to Muddy Waters due for release in August. Clapton plays on all sixteen tracks, and the songs where he is featured work the best. His phrasing is so similar to Cale's you could swear they were in the booth together, just like their 2006 collaboration "The Road To Escondido". Shortly before his death, Cale could be heard on Clapton's 2013 album "Old Sock" and in 2006 they won a Grammy for their album "The Road To Escondido. On "The Breeze: An Appreciation Of JJ Cale," Clapton enlists the help of string virtuosos like Tom Petty, John Mayer, Mark Knopfler, and Don White.
