Subtitled "Performing the jazz compositions of Ron Collier, Gordon deLamont, Norm Symonds". Other Versions (5 of 11) View All. Cat.Duke Ellington With The Ron Collier Orchestra - Collages (LP, Album).
This is the discography of Duke Ellington. Most of these recordings are listed by the year they were recorded rather than year released. Reissues are listed for most of the recordings released before the 1950s, as the original 78s are rare.
This album is an oddity in Duke Ellington's huge discography. The pianist is heard as a guest soloist with the Ron Collier Orchestra in Canada performing six numbers composed and arranged by either Collier, Norman Symonds or Gordon Delamont. In addition to Ellington, the other soloists include flugelhornist Fred Stone, guitarist Ed Bickert and trombonist Butch Watanabe. None of the complex suitelike originals are particularly memorable, and the arrangements for the orchestra (two of the pieces utilize a string section) are reasonably colorful, but not too distinctive.
This is a rarity to hear "live" undoctored music these days.
