This 2xCD soundtrack to Mark Kozelek's 2011 documentary, On Tour, serves as a kind of sampler, collecting live and alternate takes on songs from the past two decades of the Sun Kil Moon singer-songwriter's discography. Through his Caldo Verde label, Mark Kozelek has been releasing a steady trickle of material for a decade now. His output includes not only studio albums under his own name and the still active Sun Kil Moon moniker, but also various collections of live tracks, alternate takes, rarities, and covers. Most find their way to listeners via bonus discs or free-with-purchase offerings, and by now seemingly every song he has ever written is well documented at each stage of its life: rough demo, studio recording, and live performance.

On Tour: A Documentary.
Well, the latest album from Kozelek, a sort of live album meets compilation album called On Tour: A Documentary – A Soundtrack, is a two disc set that doesn't serve much of a point, either. For one, a clutch of these songs are actually studio versions of material already found on 2010's Sun Kil Moon album Admiral Fell Promises. I would gently grab you by the shoulders, spin you around and send you off in the direction of Kozelek's high water mark in the form of 2003's Sun Kil Moon album, Ghosts of the Great Highway. I really don't get the purpose or the intended audience for On Tour: A Documentary – The Soundtrack, particularly when it boasts not one, but two versions of "Ålesund", for instance.

List of all Mark Kozelek tickets and tour dates for 2019. Many lessons were learned last time Mark Kozelek came to Denver to perform at the Soiled Dove Underground. Koz doesn’t get laid in Denver. He doesn’t drink or smoke pot. He doesn’t like the outdoors and has nothing in common with the sporty couples of Colorado. But the most important lesson was to refrain from eating Buffalo wings while the man is performing. Having learned our lesson, we were spared that particular rant on Thursday night. Instead, the 48 year old singer-songwriter took the stage with stories about Anton LaVey, Steve McQueen and dreams of moving to the West Coast, all while.
SImply put, Mark Kozelek is one of my favourite musicians of all time. In his diverse 20+ album discography with Red House Painters, Sun Kil Moon and various solo projects, his music is deeply touching, endlessly melancholic, full of rich harmonious songwriting and introspection. So of course, I'd be intrigued in his 2012 music documentary.
