Elephants can hear sounds at 14–16 Hz, while some whales can hear infrasonic sounds as low as 7 Hz (in water). The range shrinks during life, usually beginning at around age of eight with the upper frequency limit being reduced. Women typically experience a lesser degree of hearing loss than men, with a later onset. Men have approximately 5 to 10 dB greater loss in the upper frequencies by age 4. .An audiogram showing typical hearing variation from a standardized norm. Audiograms of human hearing are produced using an audiometer, which presents different frequencies to the subject, usually over calibrated headphones, at specified levels

November 9, 2014 at 3:03 pm. Wow I heard all of these sounds, but the ones starting from 18kHz were quiet. But I checked my hearing previously on pitchperfect software, I couldn’t hear above 17 kHZ. I’m 18, male. Jeff says: March 16, 2014 at 7:12 am. 5khz even with dacamp and audeze lcd’s. But I already knew I suffer from hearing loss. I am 28 and can hear from 200hz to 12khz. I was diagnosed yesterday with genetic nerve damage in both ears causeing hearing loss. I have never liked listening to loud music and I only use headphones when im talking on the phone, because it is hard for me to hear the other person without them. At first I was nervous because I couldn’t hear anything past 16, but I turned up my speakers and things got much better. I could hear up to and including 19 Khz without any real difficulty. Other animals, like elephants, hear sounds many times lower than those a human can perceive. And as people age, their hearing gets even worse, eliminating even more sounds from the range of audible noises. Here are just a few sounds most people are missing out on: 1. Sounds for young people. Cats possess ultrasonic hearing, meaning they can hear a much wider frequency of sounds than humans (or most other mammals, for that matter) can. Same issues, dropped this morning couldn't hear from ear piece, tried the memo test, nothing, blew in the earpiece and voila it worked! YAY. Thank you. 11/01/2012 by aimeeski. couldn't hear a caller unless I put them on speaker phone. My problem was pretty sporadic, and kinda baffling. I live in the Pacific Northwest, it rains a lot here. This holds relevance because I finally figured out that the difficulty only happens when my phone is a bit wet from the rain. Makes sense, because the earphone jack is located at the top of the handset, so it's likely to end up with a drop or two in the socket. The trouble always vanishes once I'm back inside, and the phone has dried off. Hope this helps.
