Switched-On Bach II is a musical album by Wendy Carlos, originally released under her birth name, Walter Carlos, in 1973 on Columbia Records and produced by Carlos and Rachel Elkind and is a sequel to the 1968 album Switched-On Bach.
To appreciate the historical significance of Switched-On Bach, one must remember that in 1968 most people thought that electronic music was an avant garde endeavor that had little connection with traditional musical values. As a listener and as a musical instrument designer, I eagerly looked forward to every new album by Walter Carlos. 1973 CBS, Inc. Made in England.
The album was also certified platinum and broke new ground for Electronic music. Following the release of Switched On Bach, Wendy Carlos composed the highly influential and hugely successful soundtrack for the film A Clockwork Orange. Over the years following the original release of Switched-On Bach in 1968, CBS was overwhelmed with requests for more SOB! Thus the sequel, Switched-On Bach II evolved in 1974. Disc: 1. 1. Wendy Carlos, who was born Walter Carlos but later changed her name - and gender - experienced this hostility first hand when she recorded Switched-On Bach. A music and physics student at two Ivy League universities, "Carlos encountered 'alienation and condescension' both students and faculty traditional musical values.
