Uprising is a 1980 reggae album by Bob Marley and the Wailers. Marley died the following year, and Uprising was the final studio album released during his lifetime. This album is one of Marley's most directly religious, with nearly every song addressing his Rastafarian beliefs, culminating in the acoustic recording of "Redemption Song". Uprising peaked at on Billboard's (North America) Black Albums chart, and on the Pop Albums chart.

Uprising was the last album by Bob Marley to be released in his lifetime. The day it reached the shops on 1 June 1980, Marley and the Wailers opened for Fleetwood Mac at the 69,000-capacity Reitstadion in Munich. It was the second night of the Uprising tour, a European trek which took them to some of the biggest venues on the continent and to several countries they hadn’t played before, including Switzerland, Ireland, Scotland and Italy

1980 album from the Reggae legend, the last studio offering to be released during his lifetime Go Unlimited. This second side reminds me so much of the writings of Curtis Mayfield, in particular, when he was with The Impressions, the group that influenced The Wailers the most. It very much has a KEEP ON PUSHING, PEOPLE GET READY type of feel to it and you can hear the influence of Mayfield & those two albums in Marley's writing as he sings of the not only redemption but African & indeed all oppressed people coming out of their current situations and going into the blessings that Jah has for them.
Uprising would be the final studio album featuring Bob Marley & the Wailers to be released during Marley's lifetime. Prophetically, it also contains some of the band's finest crafted material, as if they were cognizant that this would be their final outing. The album's blend of religious and secular themes likewise creates a very powerful and singular quest for spirituality in a material world . Less than a year after the release of Uprising, Marley would succumb to cancer. The 2001 "Definitive Remaster" version of Uprising contains the band version of "Redemption Song" and the 12" mix of "Could You Be Loved.
