Scott Ross's 'Scarlatti: Best Sonatas' offers us a lively selection from the complete set by Ross. It starts with K. and ends with K. and makes 17 stops in between, coming in at 77 min. The complete set was recorded at Radio France studios in 1984-5, over 18 months, in 98 sessions. 5 harpsichords were used. They are all well recorded, and one, used in K. 296-99, sounds like a simpler instrument than the others and is miked rather closely. The effect of this is to put the listener looking over Mr. Ross's shoulder, and gives an intimate feeling.
