Memphis Beat is an album by Jerry Lee Lewis released on the Smash label in 1966. More than half the songs on Memphis Beat were recorded on January 5 and 6, 1966 at Phillips Studio in Memphis. The remaining selections were taken from a rare New York City session eight months earlier and Lewis's earliest sessions at Smash in 1963. The album includes a rare Lewis original called "Lincoln Limousine," a garbled tribute to John F. Kennedy

After veering hard into country (and country-pop) territory with Country Songs for City Folks, Jerry Lee Lewis came roaring back with Memphis Beat in 1966, featuring his hardest rocking sounds in years, and a band who were as good as any with whom he'd ever recorded

Jerry Lee Lewis is one of the first true rock ‘n’ roll musicians. He catapulted to fame with his 1957 hit, Whole Lotta Shakin’ Goin’ On, and proved to the world that a piano man could play front and center on the world’s biggest stages. He has stirred up some trouble in his days, once lighting a piano on fire on stage with a Coca-Cola bottle of gasoline to close out the show. Other rock legends have said that they never wanted to follow Jerry Lee Lewis’ performance. Jerry Lee Lewis was born on September 29th, 1935, in Ferriday, Louisiana

For the real inside story, we chat exclusively with the Ferriday Fireball himself about his life and career – from crossing the threshold of Sun Records infamous Memphis studio in 1956 through to the present day still rockin' the ivories. With the help of a cast of Jerry Lee's original Sun band – JM Van Eaton, JW Brown and the late, great Roland Janes – we remember the early rock'n'roll years, plus we delve into his ground-breaking eponymous 1958 debut album with the help of biographer Rick Bragg. As we follow Jerry Lee's trajectory through the 70s and on – via his exceptional Southern Roots album – we offer up yet more exclusive interviews with some of the main players in the Jerry Lee story including guitarist and sidekick Kenny Lovelace, regular producer and collaborator Jerry Kennedy, and Jerry Lee's sister Linda Gail Lewis.
