Therefore, even though the 10 Steps Forward album holds its focus around Mobi Dixon’s familiar territory of Afro House, it still crisscrosses across genres for an all-round musical experience. We already got a dose of fire and flames recently when the heavyweight DJ and Producer unveiled the flagship record of the project titled Visa. With a music video to match, that effort continues to dominate on the circuit, dance floors and across social gigs.

Reviews (1)
Umi
for years and years we were told there would be a single for the track "moth". we never received one, and it would have been kind of silly to finally release one in 2002, five years after the release of the record it was on, but we did get this instead - a collection of outtakes from III and effector, as well as some new material (apparently).now, III wasn't received overly well by download and skinny puppy enthusiasts; even the majority of those who could appreciate the shift in direction still felt a little betrayed under the argument that if they wanted to release a plateau disc then they should have just released a plateau disc. what the hell happened to download !? effector didn't help by pushing the sound right into the mainstream of electronica, whether that translated into more units sold or not. oddly, this disc of discarded material seems to fix some of those problems.certainly, the disc is more similar to III and effector than to their earlier records, but it also incorporates a much dirtier, grindier sound that, while not precisely reminiscent of early download, is perhaps more acceptable to fans of noisy industrial music. while hidden under a veneer of modern technology, there's also a re-incorporation of ebm-like synthesizer parts. the result is that this comes off - at least to me, anyways - as what III and effector should have sounded like; yes, you can hear the influences from warp records, idm, minimalist techno, electronic ambience and mainstream electronica but, unlike those two records, you can also hear an influence from industrial music on this disc and that, ultimately, is what the detractors of III and effector (myself included) truly and very sorely missed. in addition to this re-incorporation of a noisier aesthetic, the other influences on the disc seem to simply be taken to a higher level; the drum 'n' bass side is more intricate, the electronica side trancier, the ambient side lusher.as of the date of this review, the disc is in it's third limited edition run of 1000 copies, meaning there's somewhere between 2000 and 3000 of these things floating around out there. like inception, it's unlikely that the disc will find it's way to too many more pressings. however, unlike inception, that's rather disappointing; if you have the choice between picking this, III or effector i'd say you should go with this....and, if you're a tool fan, take note of the interesting oddity that danny carey is responsible for the cover art.
