The Black Flux is the second studio album by Norwegian avant-garde metal band Virus. It was released on 10 November 2008 via Season of Mist. The Black Flux was recorded between June 2007 and July 2008 at Amper Tone Studios, Oslo. This is the band's only studio album that was released by the label Season of Mist.
An album as deeply rooted, if not more so, in jazz and art-punk as in metal, The Black Flux shows the trio exploring a more focused and refined sound, which is a logical evolution from Carheart, while setting themselves even further apart from their black metal origins. In the simplest of terms, Virus’ sound can be described as blending the oft-dissonant, space-rock-tinged riffing of Nothingface-era Voivod with the bass-driven grooves of bands like The Birthday Part and NoMeansNo. But in reality, their sound is much deeper than that

The Black Flux" arrived by a long, painful route: Carl-Michael "Czral" Eide literally hit rock bottom, when both his legs were shattered in a tragic accident in March 2005, rendering his musical career in ruins on a dark street of Oslo. Within seconds an icon and much loved figure of the prolific Norwegian Black Metal scene seemed to have expired.
