Eight original cuts highlight not only the guitarist's endlessly inventive improvisational artistry but a host of talented backing musicians, including such longtime Hendrix stalwarts as drummer Buddy Miles and bassist Billy Cox. After reaching an agreement with the artist's estate in early 1975, producers Alan Douglas and Tony Bongiovi began assembling unreleased material for a new Jimi Hendrix album.
Reprise and other labels knew that Hendrix's fans were an incredibly loyal and devoted bunch, and they knew that serious collectors would snag any Hendrix LP they could get their hands on. One of those posthumous releases was Crash Landing, which Reprise assembled in 1975. The LP's best-known tracks include "Message to Love" and "With the Power," both of which find Hendrix leading his Band of Gypsies power trio. Also enjoyable is a remake of the famous "Stone Free. But despite the presence of some gems, Crash Landing isn't essential - this record.

Crash Landing is a posthumous compilation album by American guitarist Jimi Hendrix. It was the first Hendrix album to be produced by Alan Douglas. Crash Landing was the first release produced by Douglas, and immediately caused controversy. The liner notes of the album indicated that Douglas used several session musicians, none of whom had ever even met Hendrix, to re-record or overdub guitar, bass, drums, and percussion on the album, erasing the contributions of the original musicians and changing the feel of the songs (Hendrix' vocals and guitar contributions were retained). This was evidently done to give a finish to songs that were works in progress or may have been recorded as demos
