Blues Breakers with Eric Clapton (. The Beano Album) is a 1966 blues/blues rock album recorded by John Mayall & the Bluesbreakers with Eric Clapton as part of the band. Clapton left to form Cream after this recording, though would team up again in 1971 for the double LP Back to the Roots.
Polydor International's 1999 collection rounds up 14 blues tracks that Eric Clapton has cut over the years, starting with a whopping six selections from Cream, continuing with a pair from Derek & the Dominos, and then concluding with relative oddities pulled from his '70s solo albums. Although the selection seems just slightly haphazard, especially on the solo cuts, there are no bad choices here and overall this is a nice sampler of Slowhand's bluesier work.

Eric Clapton Eric Clapton is an innovative guitarist, basically the first to combine blues and rock, which in turn popularized blues. Because of his skill and ever-evolving style, his music is a lasting contribution in itself. Eric Clapton made his recording debut with The Yardbirds, the British group that also featured guitar virtuosos Jimmy Page and Jeff Beck. Together, they created a whole new blues, rock sound that many of the famous ’60 s and ’70 s bands copied. After the one-album stint with The Bluesbreakers, Clapton formed a new group called Cream with bassist, vocalist Jack Bruce and drummer Ginger Baker. The trio made four highly successful albums together in the next few years. Their more rock like interpretations of old blues songs made blues more popular to the mainstream, much more so than with The Yardbirds.
Only 10 left in stock (more on the way). Culled from recordings cut between 1970 (the Layla sessions) and 1980 (when Clapton cut his final Polydor album, Another Ticket), these sides finds EC exploring his beloved blues while in a fragile state of mind and body. After all, he was on heroin when he concocted Layla, and though he kicked that habit in the early '70s, he continued to test his tolerance for alcohol throughout the decade.
