The Jordanaires were an American vocal quartet that formed as a gospel group in 1948. They are known for providing background vocals for Elvis Presley, in live appearances and recordings from 1956 to 1972. The group has also worked in the recording studio, on stage, and on television with many other country and rock and roll artists.
Scotty Moore and Ronnie McDowell developed a friendship after McDowell recorded a tribute to Elvis Presley in 1977. Courtesy of Ronnie McDowell. When Ronnie McDowell recorded the 1977 crossover smash The King Is Gone after Elvis Presley’s death, he had no idea that his fascination with the rock icon would help spawn a friendship with Presley’s guitarist Scotty Moore. Though McDowell had worked to establish an identity for himself apart from his tribute to Presley, he was more than happy to step into the King’s shoes with the people who were there to witness his reign. They’d come out and tell stories and I would just sing the songs.
