The album received high acclaim from several music critics. Unlike previous Unwound albums, Leaves Turn Inside You was recorded in 2000 by the band members at their own built studio, MagRecOne ("Magnetic Recording One"), in Olympia, Washington
Leaves Turn Inside You is much too massive and sprawling an album to discuss track by track. There aren't really any bubbly or anthemic songs (such as Fake Train's "Dragnalus") or anything of the throat-shredding screams Trosper is well-known for (like on The Future of What's "Here Come the Dogs"). The length of the album is somewhat mind-numbing, as is the relatively slow tempo of most of the songs

Leaves Turn Inside You is the culmination of Unwound's three-year process of reinvention, and on first listen by anyone familiar with the band's trademark slash-and-burn abrasiveness, the transition seems anything but subtle. The path that led to the band's first double album wasn't an abrupt and contrived stylistic leap, however. The members had aged a bit, taking the three years since recording 1998's Challenge for a Civilized Society to ponder their musical identities, an introspective windfall that led them to construct their MagRecOne (Magnetic Recording Academy).
Leaves Turn Inside You is basically Unwound’s equivalent to Fugazi’s The Argument. Primarily a post-hardcore band in their previous records, this record was a major step away from their normal sound, experimenting with a string section, mellotron, spoken samples, etc. While Unwound had quite a few long songs before this record, none can compare to the amazing epic 9+ minute Terminus. With the exception of Slint’s Spiderland, I can’t think of another album that creates such a bleak and hopeless atmosphere. I highly recommend this to any fans of later Fugazi, Slint, or Sonic Youth. Leaves Turn Inside You can be an exhausting listen, totaling in at 74:38, and it’s certainly not an album for everyone or something to listen to everyday. However, every minute is used effectively and contributes to the album’s flow.
Leaves Turn Inside You. "Please retry". The fact that it was double indicated it might be a Statement album of some sort, which can be a good or a bad thing. In this case it's a good thing- a very very good thing. the other two are constantly lobbying for which is why i can't be more definitive).
In many respects, Leaves Turn Inside You is the band's most ambitious, sweeping, and difficult outing ye. .I'm convinced that, if you've been following this band's development, the initial bewildered expression on your face will give way to total enchantment, and this new, boldly different Unwound album will have you in its grip for months to come.
